Fire Station Studios: Producing Music and Excellence
By Kayla Scroggs
Excellence is nothing new to the students at Texas State University, especially those of the sound recording technology program.
Being one of the most competitive programs at Texas State, as few as 16 students out of the average 100 applications that Fire Station Studios receives per year is admitted into the program.
However, this fierce competition is not unwarranted. The audio engineering program is highly successful and has a well-qualified staff.
Engineer Bobby Arnold has had many years of audio recording experience. Some of his previous work includes working with country music legend, Willie Nelson.
If chief engineer Gary Hickinbotham (pictured on the interview page of our blog) looks familiar, you might have seen him running the sound board at Cheatham Street Warehouse right here in San Marcos.
The knowledgeable staff works hard to educate and train students at the highest level.
Since its inception Fire Station Studios has racked up a number of accomplishments.
The studio helped produce a song for the Texas Tornadoes, which lead to the band’s first and only Grammy award.
In recent years, a three student team won the grand prize for the Fantastic Scholastic Recording Competition, a national competition sponsored by Shur Pro Audio.
Many Fire Station Studios alumni have had flourishing careers. Most notably, one former student now works with renowned film director Robert Rodriguez as a member of his audio team.
Joining the ranks of these professionals and students is a rigorous process. But, if you have a background in music and wish to be a part of excellence at Texas State University, visit our blogs contact page to find information on how to apply.
